This file outlines the structure of the Kevo Subarctic Research Station soil temperature network and data files.

In September 2011, 51 sites were installed with soil temperature sensors at 2 cm depth in a network surrounding the research station. 
Loggers were set to record every 30 minutes, but hourly data is available in this dataset. 

The logger sites are listed in alphabetical order and the list of station names is given in the excel spreadsheet, soilloggerdetailsFinland.xlsx. The first tab gives the station coordinates. Data between September 2011 and June 2012 is not in the same format (so is not easily available). The data in this file starts therefore in June 2012.

The sites were downloaded (usually, but not always in September). Individual loggers are switched over in the field, details of which are given in the additional tabs (listed by month). Sometimes because of logger swtich over times there is temporary missing data as the logger is switched over - given symbol . in the actual data files.

For the data itself, the file is named soilhr1221.txt. Each row is an observation time.

The first five values in each row are:

time (all times Finnish Standard Time: UTC+2 hrs). There is no daylight saving. Case number is even numbers since the original dataset is every 30 mins and only hourly values are given here.

Subsequent columns are the data for the 51 stations in the same alphabetical order as in the opening tab in the excel spreadsheet, e.g. allalake, allasum, jese1 etc

The rest of this file gives details of bad data, or other relevant information which pertains to individual loggers in individual years. In most cases bad data has been removed.

Jetty - logger stopped on 11 February 2014 at 0800 FST. Data missing from then until 12 June 2014

Tsae1 - logger stopped on 21 Mar 2016 at 2130 FST. Data missing from then until 22 August 2016.
Wind3 - bad logger data with extreme flucutations. Most outlying data deleted (mostly spring and summer 2015/2016). Treat with caution.

Allasum - logger stopped on 14 May 2018 at 1130 FST. Data missing from then until 31 August 2018
Lonepine - logger stopped on 2 November 2017 at 0930 FST. Data missing from then until 4 September 2018
Tsacol - logger was found exposed on the surface - estimated time of exposure: 12 August 2017 at 0130 FST - data since then was screened and deleted apart from during the winter of 2017/2018 when buried by snow.

Kevv1 - logger stopped on 8 Jan 2020 at 0600 FST. Data missing from then until 10 Sep 2020.
Tsaw - logger stopped on 24 Oct 2019 at 2200 FST. Data missing from then until 10 Sep 2020.
